And so it begins . . .

And not just for me this time.  As I start my 65th semester at UNCG, my grandson Jonas begins his first day in kindergarten. I hope to hear about it soon, maybe even later today. Since I cannot remember my first day of kindergarten, or my first day of grad school for that matter, it will be interesting to hear what he has to say.  (Fortunately, he has friends at his school, and in his class, so that should make it easier.)

Meanwhile my other grandson Atticus is now 13 months old, and running around everywhere. I can keep up with him for now, but who knows how much longer that will be true !

As for school at UNCG, I think I will once again survive.  I have new responsibilities working with the Lloyd International Honors College including office hours in the new honors dorm, just down the street from the library. They set up a "fancy" (new?) Mac for me, but someone stole the cord to the mouse, so I don't know how I will be able to use it.    (;->>   I met with the incoming class (190 or so!) last weekend and most of them got most of my jokes (or "jokes") so I am encouraged. The daughter of one of my old frisbee teammates is on the honors dorm, so I will know one person at least.




 

A Beautiful New grandson !

My new grandson has arrived--all 10 pounds, 13 ounces [!!] of him. He is darling, as you can see from the pictures here.

I particularly like the way that Jonas has so smoothly become a wonderful BIG BROTHER, as this picture, and many others, demonstrate. He really loves Atticus. And although Jonas was holding Atticus a day after he was born, I didn't get the chance until he was 10-12 days old. I guess it took a while to have me vetted for such an important job! And I don't blame them.

As Christmas approaches and we await the new president, life continues quietly for me and those close to me. Our house is trimmed with Christmas cheer, in hopes that our grandson soon will be here! He's still not four, but it seems that Pam and I have had a lifetime of fun with him already! (At least I think so!)

Well, I have had another "banner" year writing my abstracts for Historical Abstracts and America: History and Life. After reading and abstracting 515 articles in 2007, I have completed 457 articles in 2008, with maybe a few more to be done before New Year's Eve. Having done so many of them over the last 29 years, I always find it fun to be helping a library patron doing research for a project and actually pull up one of "my" abstracts. It convinces me that doing all this "work" really does pay off for real people.

2008 begins

Well, although it feels like May (it was 14 degrees above the average high for the day when I went out at 8 yesterday, and the "low" temperature was 30 degrees above normal), it is mid-winter here. We have survived the break without gaining 25 pounds. We await the start of the new semester on Monday.

Our grandson remains adorable, as one can plainly see! With my "help" he is playing (a form of) basketball, racquetball, soccer, volleyball, etc.

Well, I have been away from this for a while . . . Actually lost track of where it was, but have now rediscovered it!

The really big news these days involves Jonas, my adorable grandson. [He won't like reading, several years from now, that he is adorable but he is.] He is almost 14 months old, and is funny, active, sweet and inquisitive.
